Bombay High Court Seeks Greater Transparency in Sonegaon Development Project
The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has directed municipal authorities to provide complete details regarding the proposed development work in the Aamrai area of Sonegaon. The court emphasized that residents must have access to clear and comprehensive information before they can effectively participate in any public consultation or objection process.
During the hearing, the bench highlighted the importance of transparency in public decision-making and observed that citizens should be adequately informed about projects that may impact their locality. The court instructed the concerned authorities to furnish the requested project-related information within a stipulated timeframe.
The bench further noted that if certain documents cannot be directly provided, residents should be granted access to relevant records for inspection. This would enable affected citizens to review the proposal in detail and submit informed objections or suggestions.
The court clarified that the development project has not been halted at this stage. However, it stressed that meaningful public participation is possible only when complete and accurate information is made available to the public.
Once the required details are disclosed, residents and petitioners will have an opportunity to examine the documents and present their concerns. The authorities are expected to consider these objections before taking any further decisions regarding the project.
The order is being viewed as a significant step toward ensuring transparency, accountability, and public involvement in urban development projects affecting local communities.
