Good Morning Nagpur
A citizens’ group in Nagpur has announced a protest on June 25 against the installation of prepaid smart electricity meters in the city. The group has objected to the new meter system, claiming that it may create additional financial pressure on consumers by requiring advance payment for electricity usage.
According to the organisers, the protest march will begin from Mangalwari and proceed towards Vidyut Bhavan. The group has also expressed concern that electricity supply could be disconnected automatically once the prepaid balance is exhausted.
The protesters have raised several issues related to consumer rights, meter replacement and the overall implementation process. They have demanded that citizens should be properly informed about the system before any replacement is carried out.
The group also plans to provide complaint support and guidance to consumers regarding objections related to prepaid meters. The protest aims to highlight public concerns and seek clarity from the concerned authorities before the wider rollout of prepaid smart meters in Nagpur.
