Nagpur: Passenger safety and security have come under focus following a significant number of theft-related incidents reported across the Nagpur Railway Division. According to the reported figures, belongings worth ₹21.26 lakh were stolen from passengers over a period of 19 months.

The reported cases involved the theft of mobile phones, luggage, cash and other valuable belongings from passengers at railway stations and on trains. Crowded areas, busy platforms and locations with limited visibility can make it easier for thieves to target unsuspecting travellers, particularly during peak hours.

The Nagpur and Ajni railway stations have been among the locations mentioned in connection with such incidents. The figures have highlighted the need for passengers to remain cautious while waiting on platforms, boarding trains and travelling with valuables.

The period also saw 8 cases involving missing senior citizens, of whom five were traced while three remained untraced. In addition, four cases involving missing children were reported, with all four successfully traced.

The situation has renewed attention on railway security and the need for stronger surveillance, better lighting and increased security presence at vulnerable points. Passengers are also advised to remain alert and keep their luggage, mobile phones, wallets and other valuables secure while travelling.
