Nagpur is stepping up its efforts to tackle noise pollution, with the city’s Noise-Free Nagpur portal helping citizens report excessive noise and enabling authorities to respond to complaints more quickly. According to the information highlighted in the post, 13 noise pollution complaints were received within just three days, indicating growing public participation in addressing noise-related issues.

Of the complaints received, 11 were escalated to the DCP level, while 5 complaints were resolved and 2 were found to be false. The system is designed to ensure that complaints are directed to the concerned police jurisdiction for prompt action.

The portal follows a 30-minute response system, under which police personnel are expected to reach the reported location within the specified response period. If the response is delayed, the complaint can move through an escalation mechanism involving ACP and DCP-level authorities.

The campaign also highlights several sources of excessive noise that citizens can report, including DJ systems and loudspeakers, construction and drilling activities, machinery and generators, firecrackers, unnecessary honking and modified silencers.

One case highlighted involved a complaint from Kotwali, where DJ music was recorded at a peak sound level of 92.4 dB, with an average level of 84.2 dB during the recording. The case was subsequently escalated after the response period was breached.

Authorities are encouraging citizens to play an active role by recording and reporting excessive noise through the portal. With faster complaint handling and citizen participation, the initiative aims to create a quieter, safer and more peaceful Nagpur.
