With Ganesh Visarjan processions scheduled across Nagpur from September 25 to 27, 2026, the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur Bench has directed the police administration to ensure strict enforcement of restrictions on prohibited DJ and high-decibel sound systems. The court has specifically directed that DCPs and ACPs be made responsible for enforcement within their respective jurisdictions.

The directions come in the backdrop of the Nagpur Police Commissioner’s September 2 notification restricting the use of multi-speaker DJ systems, plasma sound systems, pressure-mid sound systems and modified vehicles carrying such equipment. The restriction is in force from September 3 to November 1, 2026, and covers Ganesh mandals as well as organisers of other public festivals and programmes.

The High Court has stressed that restrictions should be implemented on the ground and not remain merely on paper. Police authorities have been directed to take effective action against violations, while the court has also questioned why permissions should continue for Ganesh mandals that use prohibited DJ systems despite restrictions.

Meanwhile, Nagpur Police have prepared an extensive security and surveillance arrangement for the immersion period. Around 6,400 police personnel and 2,858 CCTV cameras are being deployed, with drones and other surveillance teams planned for crowd monitoring. The city has 1,702 public Ganesh mandals along with a large number of household idols expected to participate in the immersion process.

The police have also identified major routes and crowded areas where additional traffic and crowd-management measures will be required. The overall arrangements are aimed at maintaining public safety, regulating traffic and ensuring that the immersion processions take place peacefully.

With the High Court increasing accountability for enforcement and the police preparing extensive security arrangements, Nagpur is set for closely monitored Ganesh Visarjan celebrations this year.
